Most car batteries don't die suddenly — they warn you first. Catching these signs early means you can replace the battery on your schedule instead of being stuck on the road.

1. Slow engine cranking

The single most common sign. If the starter turns over sluggishly, especially first thing in the morning, the battery is weak.

2. Dashboard battery warning light

A battery-shaped warning symbol while driving usually points to a charging-system issue — often the battery or alternator. Get it checked immediately.

3. Dim headlights and weak electronics

Flickering or dim lights, slow power windows, or a weak horn are all signs the battery can't hold proper voltage under load.

4. Needing frequent jump-starts

One jump-start is fine. If you need one every few days, the battery can no longer hold charge and should be replaced.

5. Swollen or leaking case

Pakistan's summer heat can swell a battery case. Any bulge, crack, or leak around the terminals means the battery is failing and may damage surrounding parts.

6. Age (3+ years)

An average car battery lasts 3 to 4 years in our climate. If yours is older, have it tested even if it feels fine — preventive replacement is cheaper than a breakdown.

7. Rotten-egg smell

A sulphur ("rotten egg") smell means the battery is overcharging or internally shorted. This is a safety issue — replace it promptly.
